授業計画
This course will give students further practice in research and communication skills developed in English Communication I. Current events, news, and social issues will be used as a basis for reading, listening, discussion, and writing in English. The goal is to give students practice in thinking and speaking in English about what is happening now in Japan and other countries. Students will be encouraged to examine issues in a broader context, to see them from different points of view, and to obtain a global perspective. Skills we will work on include reading/listening for main points, summarization, opinionating, listening and paraphrasing, discussion dynamics. Students will watch video material (news, documentaries, interviews) and do Internet research in English for background information on the issues. They will be given extensive handouts (printed material) of related vocabulary and comprehension questions to help them prepare for discussions. Students will work on "research teams" of 2-4 classmates and give verbal reports to their team members and the class. They will also be asked to choose their own topics and lead discussions. Efforts will be made to clear up persistent language / grammar problems and to give students some individual help with their English.
